Writing Instructions

It was tricky to remember the recipe and the equipment we needed. I felt excited when I published  my recipe.

Adding detail to my story

Maori language week Koru art

Last week we were learning about Maori Language Week. We watched the haka and we practiced the haka. The week after we went in front of Room 29 as a whole school haka. Now we know the haka. We learned the Maori colours and Maori numbers, days of the week and how to say hello and sing Maori songs. Soon we will learn how to do lots of things in Maori. I like Maori.

Contractions

We are learning to find contractions in our stories. We know that contraction are two words that are squashed together. I can find contractions easily because they have an apostrophe in them.

I am good at contractions because I know how to find the contractions by looking at the apostrophe because it looks like a little angel. I want to work on finding the problem, solution, beginning, middle, end, characters and setting of my story.

Fractions

We are learning about fractions. We know that one quarter is when we cut something into four pieces. We also learnt about halves which means we cut something two pieces. Fractions are ½ ¼ and ⅓. With fraction you start with one whole and you cut it into pieces.

I am good at fractions because I know which fractions are the biggest and which fractions are the smallest. I know that ⅛ is the smaller that ½. One whole is the biggest.

Compound sentences

We are learning to write compound sentences. We know that a compound sentence is two sentences that we put together with ‘and’ ‘but’ or ‘because. It can be tricky to make sure we join two sentences together and not just another word to a sentence.

I like writing compound sentences because it helps me to make my sentences better and longer. My next step is to add more describing and interesting words in my stories.

Skip counting in 2's

I like maths because I can count up to 100 now. It is still a bit tricky to skip count in 2's up to 100. I will work hard to learn how to skip count to 100.

Capital letters and full stops

Base words and word endings

I love reading because I get to do lots of worksheet and I can read harder books. I am good at finding root words and word endings. My next step is to learn to find contractions.
